village people - get it on main street

The Chatham Business Alliance brings you news and resources for navigating Chatham Village during DOT construction.

June 9, 2008 Update

June 09, 2008

Whew!  It’s hot out there!  The temperature is in the 90’s and the intrepid Colarusso construction crew is out on Main Street laying down the first of four layers of asphalt.  The steaming and crackling make you think you’re at an active volcano instead of beautiful downtown Chatham!  But for those of us just walking by to do our shopping and other business, it’s all part of the passing scene.

New granite curbs are up.  The three places where the curbs curve out into Main Street are where the new crosswalks will be.  No more parking across the crosswalk, unwary motorists!  And speaking of parking, the parking lot next to the former dollar store is temporarily off limits.  When the asphalt layers are all down and cooled, access to that parking lot will be restored, perhaps as early as tomorrow.  Two-way travel on Kinderhook Street is still in effect, and parking on Kinderhook Street and other nearby streets affords you easy access to all the businesses in the Main Street area.

Needless to say, since paving has begun, all the underground pipe work is finished.  Construction is still moving along at a very good pace, despite delays due to heavy rain. Looks like the Main Street completion target date of July 31 will be no problem!
