Sun. Nov 30, 2008 at 1:00pm
The Chatham Bookstore will be hosting a book reception and signing for The Bedside Baccalaureate on Sunday, November 30, from 1-3 PM. Author and editor David Rubel, a Chatham resident, will be signing copies of his recently published book, which distills into readable prose twenty college-level courses from Human Origins to Impressionism to Globalization to The Holocaust in Europe.
Published by Sterling, The Bedside Baccalaureate ($19.95 hardcover) makes up for knowledge never gained or perhaps lost in the years since a reader’s graduation from college. Speaking directly to the thirst for learning that many adults feel, The Bedside Baccalaureate is filled with accessible and entertaining text and colorful images that provide information in a highly appealing format. The first title in an exciting new series, The Bedside Baccalaureate provides a fun, no-pressure way to brush up on subjects with which any well-educated person would want to be familiar.
Series editor David Rubel, who also wrote two of the courses in the book, is the author of more than a dozen works of American history, including most recently The Coming Free: The Struggle for African-American Equality, The Story of America: Freedom and Crisis from Settlement to Superpower (coauthored with Archivist of the United States Allen Weinstein), and the forthcoming fifth edition of The Scholastic Encyclopedia of the Presidents and Their Times.
The Chatham Bookstore is located at 27 Main Street in the village of Chatham. Refreshments will be served. For more details, contact the bookstore at 518-392-3005.
