Sun. Sep 7, 2008 at 8:00pm

Rural Projects is pleased to present Phase II of Martine Kaczynski’s site specific gas station project : Solar Cinema.
DUE TO SATURDAY’S RAIN FORECAST, PLEASE NOTE THE DATE CHANGE TO SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 7th AT 8PM.

The first solar cinema screening was a success! Thank you. Please join us for our second solar screening, Sunday, September 7th, 8:00pm.  “Deliverance” is the story of four urban men entering the unknown territory of rural America. An innocent camping trip explores the conflict between urban and rural to sinister ends . Most noted for its music - an early scene that takes place in a rural gas station sets the stage for this movie. *Not for children under 16.  Popcorn will be served. For advance reservations call: 518-851-7528 or email info@ruralprojects.org.  Seating is comprised of chairs, benches and picnic blankets.

Martine Kaczynski’s work explores the vernacular architecture of the American landscape.  Last year she created a replica of a disused gas station alongside County Route 11.  Now with the technical assistance of Christopher Werner she has converted it into an outdoor movie theatre powered by solar energy . The gas station is not simply a structural icon representing speed, mobility, and power but signifies the current debate surrounding the search for alternative energy sources.  Kaczynski sees these structures as future relics and has taken the opportunity to convert hers into a venue utilizing renewable energy, emphasizing her vision that such structures will eventually be used for diverse purposes.

Rural Projects is an artist’s residency program and art venue in southern Columbia County, NY.
